THE LIBERTINES: SECRET GIG @ THE BLUES KITCHEN, CAMDEN

The Libertines were at their best last night during an intimate secret show at the Blues Kitchen in Camden, it was the smallest gig the band has played in over a decade. They blitzed their way through 28 songs in what was a 90 minute set that consisted of music from NEW album ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’, old classics and even a few covers with Pete playing tribute songs to Amy Winehouse, The Strokes and The Clash.
The band had been drinking at local nearby pub in Camden before the set and Pete even got up unannounced to give the locals a little sing song with Co front man Carl Barat playing drums before heading to the Blues Kitchen. It was a great night by the sounds of it and we’re gutted to have missed it! There was stage dives, guitars and mic’s being thrown into the crowd, singing on the floor, fans getting on stage with the band and even a rendition of an old cockney classic ‘Knees Up Mother Brown’. In our book this goes down as a Royal piss up and a great example that Rock and Roll is definitely still alive even if only in a small majority of bands. The Libertines have surely booked themselves a place in the Rock Legends category after this impulsive show. As the end of the night grew closer to the disgust of those present, the band left the stage, well all but one. Pete stayed behind to have some quality one on one time with the crowd, picking up his acoustic guitar and playing ‘Music When The Lights Go Out’ to which the rest of the band rejoined him on stage. Make sure you keep an eye out for the upcoming album ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ due out in September! PEACE, TRW
