JACK BROADBENT - KEEPIN' THE BLUES ALIVE

Some months ago during a moronic Facebook binge that seem to be becoming all the more common in today’s social media driven society we stumbled across some hidden treasure. After wading through the thick stench of bullshit that emanates from a vast majority of viral videos that somehow circulate the internet on a daily, hourly and per second basis we discovered a diamond in the rough. The video was of a man, a very talented one at that, playing an extremely unique style of slide guitar whilst busking on the streets of Amsterdam. Opting for an unconventional way to hold the guitar by placing it flat on his lap this artist continued to project his soulful blues by using a whiskey hip flask as his slide and raw improvisational skill to guide him through the journey and result is absolutely breath-taking! Jack Broadbent, born and raised in traditional rural England with strong influence from his musician father he grew up surrounded by the sounds of some of blues finest artists like Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker and Peter Green. Today he tours and busks around the UK spreading his music to the masses becoming more and more successful as the days pass by. Having watched the video in full for the first time we craved more like a bug that had been planted inside us, growing by the second, so we investigated a little more stumbling across his website (which for those of you that are interested i.e every single one of you reading this!! Is here www.jackbroadbent.co.uk ). We bought his album, after all that’s what it’s all about isn’t it, supporting musicians buying CD’s/ Vinyls and giving back to the industry. ‘Along The Trail of Tears’ was his latest album and it was exactly what we imagined, a stunning compilation of 11 tracks that all accompany one another perfectly. Make sure you check him out show your support grab an album or two on his bandcamp page HERE: https://jackbroadbent1.bandcamp.com/album/along-the-trail-of-tears he is out here in the UK keeping blues music alive and we respect that massively. You can also listen to his music on Spotify which is obviously free for most, so no excuses spare a minute and listen now maybe even add some tracks to a few playlists if you’re feeling wild. We suggest listening too ‘Slide It In’ which is a 16:58 minute track of absolute impeccable slide genius, taken from his Busking CD it has been a track firmly cemented in our daily listening for some time now and we recommend it to any blues lovers out there. The track in the video below is his latest endeavour called ‘Gone Gone Gone’ recorded and written in his home studio it’s a raw and soulful song that transports you back to a time when the blues was a dominant and prosperous force. The track itself, sounds, to us, like a softer and slower version of Jack Whites ‘Fly Farm Blues’ which for those of you who know us by now is our all-time favourite song hence why we love this track so much. We are looking to head to one of his many shows in November most likley at The Lexington in Angel, London so if you like what you hear get yourselves a ticket and we will see you there!!
