BIFFY CLYRO: BIG PLANS FOR 2016?

So it’s been a pretty dry year for Biffy fans, many couldn’t have expected any less really after the announcements made by the band late 2014 which pretty much confirmed 2015 as being a year’s sabbatical for the Scottish Rockers. With their feet firmly up and beers flowing post the release of the extremely successful double album ‘Opposites’ the band could do so without any unwelcomed feelings of guilt or sluggishness. Rightfully so, I mean what an absolute beast of an album it was! However it seems the Scots grew tired and restless during their pre-planned year of sanctuary, with recent revelations that the band may not be as fully enrolled in the laid back lifestyle as the

y appear to show. This comes from a whole stigma of different signs that all point in one gigantic, massive fucking flashing direction that is hurtling towards their return. What does this return mean for us fans though? Well it looks as though a new album is already underway; Instagram would suggest they have linked up with John Feldmann who appears to have been working with the band in LA. They have been poorly subtle in the management of their social media accounts with many posts in recent months revealing much about the ongoing in camp Biffy. We have a picture on Feldmann’s Insta of Simon crouching in a meditative state smoking his carefully crafted rollie with the caption ‘Coffee and Cigarettes with this guy today. 5 songs 3 days’. To furthe

r enforce this notion the band have posted several photos of themselves in the studio behind microphones and a plethora of many other studio-esque equipment pieces. Make of it what you will but we’re pretty fucking certain a new album is on the way. Simon was interviewed at Q earlier in the year speaking out about his creative process, during which he gave a pretty strong indication of what we can expect saying ‘Coming off the back of a double album, it’s important to be really concise, so we might only have 10 songs’, So fans, don’t expect another 20 song extraordinaire because you’re not going to get it.

Along with much deliberation about new material, the band has also given huge hints of a return to the festival circuit next summer. They recently confirmed their participation on next year’s Rock AM Ring and Rock IM Park line-ups which all but confirms the fact they will be hitting a few festivals on the UK shores. They have also planned to enter the New Year with a bang, playing Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations on New Years Eve, which draws in the end of their year shadowing themselves from the public eye, how successfully they did so is another matter entirely. Will they use this end of year party to showcase some new material they have been working on? Or will it be a time to take a look back at some of the epic songs they have released over the years before turning a new leaf and embarking on new adventures for the start of 2016. No-one really knows we will let you all decipher that one yourselves, all we do know is the wait is almost over now and these signs gather strong evidence that we can expect a new album, UK&I Tour and plenty of festivals in 2016. We will be keeping a close eye on this story as it unfolds, so likewise keep your eyes peeled to our twitter feed and website for more as it comes to us.
