So we have a new super group on our hands, and who else but Josh Homme is inevitably the very epicentre of the venture. It’s not your typical rock and roll collab though as part of the bill we have, the just mentioned, Mr Josh Homme of Queens of The Stoneage , the Godfather of Punk Iggy Pop, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders and on Guitar and Keyboards Dean Fertita who, himself isn’t shy of a super group or two working with Jack White on The Deadweather. It’s an interesting mix of talent but one that leaves our palms sweaty and reflexes twitchy, the direction of this alliance is immeasurable not a soul on the planet could comprehend the noise to come out of the four studio walls.

They are working on a full album due to be titled ‘Post Pop Depression’ and released at some point in March 2016. Does this give anymore away? Are any of you getting a vibe from this, plotting a direction and sound in your minds as we unravel more details? Whilst speaking to the New York Times Iggy Pop said the albums timeline is set in the future and asks the question ‘What happens after your years of service? And where is the honor?’ he continued to explain that the character he had in mind for the album was a mix between himself and a military veteran. Explaining the title ‘Post Pop Depression’, which, evidently relates to the common fate that many soldiers face when they return from war with a little spruce up that I’m sure you can all spot. He went on to elucidate “In American life, because it’s so hypercompetitive, what happens when you’re finally useless to everyone except hopefully not yourself? What happens then? And can you continue to be of use to yourself?”
As for the other band members Josh Homme allegedly used this project as a way of alluding his mind away from last year’s Paris Terror attacks in which his close friends, and band mates, ‘Eagles of Death Metal’ found themselves in the eye of. With Alex Turner off cavorting with Miles Kane in the wake of ‘The Last Shadow Puppets’ new record, Matt Helders has found himself with a lot of time on his hands and what better way to occupy said time than to join forces with some other very talented musicians.
The album itself has been self financed and Homme’s intentions were crystal clear, the album is a project made to be heard and enjoyed by fans. An endeavour to push the boundaries and test the scope of their combined creativity. We have to say we couldn’t be more excited to hear what they’ve created. Well thankfully we do not have to wait as long as we may have first anticipated, wrap your earbuds around the video at the footer of this article to hear ‘Gardenia’ performed on ‘Colbert’ a Late Night TV show in America. All we can reveal is that there’s an almighty funky bassline carried throughout the track that will get your shoulders bopping for sure, we don’t want to give anything else away. The album is to be released as an Iggy Pop record and not under a Super Group band alias. They admirably managed to keep the whole project a secret throughout by ‘running off to the desert’, in typical Josh Homme fashion with the two coming together when Iggy sent Josh a ‘proposal’ via his burner flip phone. Detect the sarcasm. From the interview it appears the two formed a close bond working on the album and have in turn brought the best out of eachother. We can also look forward to a tour sometime after the album’s release in March so keep your eyes peeled if you’re a fan of any of these musicians and make sure you check out this project.
