Just when you thought Mr Jack White couldn’t get any fucking cooler he comes from the shadows and delivers a great big drop kick to the back of the head, metaphorically obviously. The recent scoop from inside his Nashville/ Detroit based Record Label ‘Third Man Records’ is that an ancient treasure of his has indeed been found in a banged up old sofa. At this point you’re probably sat there thinking what the fuck are they on about, is this text splurge of some dodgy Monday night acid trip. Well no, that’s not the case drugs are bad m’kay. A rare vinyl release by Jack White which he and his friend Brian Muldoon hid in a sofa over 10 years ago has finally been found by fans.

During the birth of The White Stripes in the early 2000’s Jack was a cauldron brimming with musical creativity that was dying to be professed to the world. During this time he and friend, Brian Muldoon, joined forces to create another of his many side projects ‘The Upholsterers’. The name stems from their mutual similarity with Jack being a former Upholsterer and Brian celebrating his 25th year in the game. The duo then decided to hide 100 copies of their song ‘Your Furniture Was Always Dead… I Was Just Afraid To Tell You’ inside reupholstered furniture around Detroit in 2004. These records had remained but a myth, until recently when two people contacted Third Man Records to announce the discovery of this mythological vinyl. An official statement from the label confirmed this unearthing and began to reveal the following information:
"Recently Third Man Records has been made aware of the discovery of two different copies found by two separate individuals of the 2nd single by the Upholsterers. This duo, comprising of actual upholsterers Jack White and Brian Muldoon, pressed 100 copies of this single and proceeded to hide them in furniture being reupholstered by Muldoon in 2004, in celebration of his 25th year in the business. In celebration of these discoveries, Third Man would like to share with everyone the cover art for this single, done by noted Detroit artist Gordon Newton."

This comes at a time when an array of pre 'The White Stripes' material is being surfaced to give us an insight into a young fresh faced and blues fuzz happy Jack White. Using his Third Man Records Vault Subscription Jack has been releasing some material from his earlier bands ‘Jack White and The Bricks’ and ‘Two-Star Tabernacle’. ‘Itchy’ a song from his band Two-Star Tabernacle was premiered earlier this year with Rolling Stone, the track was recorded back in 1999 when he was going by the name Jackson White. The White Stripes went on to release their debut album that year. The Vault package included some Dead Weather material and a live set from the Gold Dollar in Detroit which includes an early version of ‘Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground’. Unfortunately you can no longer subscribe in time for this Vault package but keep your eyes open for some future rare releases. Some of these early recordings also show us versions of other White Stripes songs like ‘Hotel Yorba’, ‘Now Mary’ & ‘Union Forever’ when they were but a twinkle in his eye. Catch some of the Two-Star Tabernacle material on YouTube HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkMD2rd83yo. This all but confirms what we already knew, Jack White is an absolute fucking legend, below we have The Upholsterers EP 'Makers of High Grade Suites'.
