RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS - NEW ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are back again with another album on the idyllic horizon, at this point we’ve genuinely lost count, does anyone know what number this one is? With a back catalogue that could reduce anyone to their knees in a puddle of euphoric tears on the floor you would expect this alien musical talent would have to come to an end at some point. But, much like their music, RHCP continue to defy the laws of physics, releasing album after album successfully maintaining the raw spice and razor sharp edge of all predecessors. Granted it’s been a while since we last saw them knocking about, 5 years to be precise with the release of ‘I’m With You’ back in 2011. Time just seems to fly when it come to the Californian Rockers though; if we were talking about any other well established outfit then a five year hiatus would be the most painful and daunting experience known to man. But when you’ve managed to produce a back catalogue of absolute belter’s like the Chilli’s this time seems to pass like a soft lullaby as you fill the dark void with songs like Scar Tissue, By The Way, Otherside, Under The Bridge, Californication, Give It Away, Can’t Stop…… you get the idea they are full to the brim with songs that define generations. Some say they could have taken down the Roman Empire but, hey, that’s just myth.

Their new single ‘Dark Necessities’ was released last week on the 5th May and is our first taste of what to expect. The album announcement didn’t really come as a shock to many fans, the band are set for a summer of worldwide festival touring with headline sets at Reading and Leeds Festival in August so new music was inevitable. We’re fortunate enough to be catching them in new pastures over at Poland’s Open’er Festival next month so keep your eyes out for our full festival coverage and set reviews in July. Word on the street is that after their busy summer they will be looking to embark on a world tour later this year, yet another thing to keep your eyes out for. Back to the song itself, it starts with tame basslines into soft guitar and piano that gradually gets louder leaving you a little tentative to begin. It then reaches the break and in comes the funky bassline we’re all used to hearing. I’m sure most who have heard it will agree this song isn’t exactly a show stopper so those that are yet to hear it don’t get your hopes too much. You’re bound to love it though it’s typical RHCP’s, the fluidity and ease of listening mimics everything they’ve strived to achieve over the past couple of decades. We would imagine this will be a soft/mature album, one that ceases to provide the raw emotive passion of heroin and cocaine fuelled albums of the past but is amazing nevertheless. We would also, however, argue that the best is yet to come, historically Chilli’s albums have been incredible start to finish and that trend remains prominent throughout their entire career.

The album is called ‘Getaway’ and will be released on 17th June 2016. When asked about the new record bassist Flea said that they are ‘heading into a new era’ with a change in producers opting for Danger Mouse instead of regular Rick Rubin. He was also quoted as saying "It's new and different but without sacrificing the good bits of us. There are some songs we already had, and some new ones too. I can't wait to play it live." He’s not giving much away that’s for sure! The tracklist can be seen below:
'The Getaway' 'Dark Necessities' 'We Turn Red' 'The Longest Wave' 'Goodbye Angels' 'Sick Love' 'Go Robot' 'Feasting on the Flowers' 'Detroit' 'This Ticonderoga' 'Encore' 'The Hunter' 'Dreams of a Samurai'
