SLAVES ARE BACK WITH NEW TRACK - 'SPIT IT OUT'

SLAVES ARE BACK. Having stormed the UK with their debut album ‘Are You Satisfied?’ relentlessly touring the UK and US the angsty punk rockers are back with their NEW single ‘Spit It Out’ which debuted on Annie Mac’s hottest record BBC Radio 1 show last night. Isaac and Laurie played a sold out show at Oxford Street’s 100 club last night but managed to pop down to BBCR1 to talk to Annie Mac about the new song.

They spoke about touring the US with Wolf Alice and recording the new album in just a week and a half at a studio state side. Many songs from the new album were written straight off the back of ‘Are You Satisfied?’ as they felt they had so much more to give. This gives us a heavy indication that we will be getting a lot more of the same, which is fantastic. Laurie discussed the process of writing the new album, saying that the general consensus was to go back to their roots. Having contemplated the potential to chill their sound out abit they decided that wasn’t the Slaves way. They pulled out some old records that inspired them to start the band and used this as fuel for their new album. It seems we can expect something heavy/raucous maybe in the style of some of their earlier tracks like Nervous Energy.

Desperately trying to dig exclusive information, Annie Mac pushed them to confirm that the album is/perhaps/potentially coming out this year at some point. They also promised no more broken bones and cancelled shows, with a sincere tone to the statement that indicated they felt extremely bad about their antics. Many of you Social Media savvy moguls out there would have noticed the current Slaves PR stunt floating about with #TAKECONTROL. They’ve been going around ‘terrorising’ other bands like Gengahr, Marmozets etc. defacing them with a burglar’s face mask that Laurie designed. It’s picked up a fair amount of momentum and apparently there will soon be an app launched so we can all do it to ourselves. Not much was divulged but it seems this gimmick has a lot to do with the promotion/ artwork of the new album and Slaves going forward. The current hype has come with a bang, moving pretty fast but we want to know what the lads have been up too since the end of their tour. Being a Rockstar is obviously a fulltime occupation but surely, like us normal people, they need their downtime. Laurie has been focusing on his art conducting a few exhibitions and Isaac has been raising his new pet rat called Betty. They’ve both got their side projects, each to their own and all that.

The name itself sounds like a Slaves song, ‘Spit It Out’ is the NEW track now available on Spotify and iTunes worldwide. Introducing itself with a menacing palm muted riff, which has become a strong characteristic of Slaves sound over the years, you can tell the track is going to progress to some evil heights. ‘Sucking on a sour sweet, blister on your tounge’ is the message from Isaac before dropping into Laurie’s malicious punk chorus and the hallowing crash of Isaac’s cymbals. Bloods pumping at this point, I feel poised ready to bottle the twat next to me. Honestly I’m sat here writing this, listening to the track on repeat and I can’t help but think my laptop’s giving me a dodgy look, I’m contemplating headbutting the prick. You get the idea though it’s proper adrenaline fueled music and although some may wrongfully moan that it’s more of the same that is EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT! If you wanna get technical we would argue that there’s slight more intricacy to the drumming on the chorus than we heard on ‘Are You Satisfied?’ which is good to hear. But by all means Slaves give us MORE! The song seems to be motivational in its nature. ‘Sucking on a sour sweet, ready to complain’, ‘What are you gunna do about it?’. Are you 23 years of age, not a fucking clue what you want to do with your life, bored to death of the mundane reality of your day to day existence? Then Slaves have a message for you, Spit It Out! Stop incessantly moaning about the current state of your life, spit out the sour sweet stop pissing in the wind and do something about it. A message we can all relate too during this limbo stage of life, who knows what they want to do or where they want to go? If you’re feeling useless and a bit shit, stick on your headphones, whack the volume up and remember everyone’s in the same fucking boat.
