KINGS OF LEON: NEW TRACK & ALBUM RELEASE

They’re back! It’s happening, stay calm everybody just breath slowly. My palms are sweating and my knees are chattering together like an old lady’s false teeth but it’s good I’m composed. The band that brought us the likes of ‘Molly’s Chambers’, ‘Radioactive’, ‘Use Somebody’, ‘Crawl’, ‘Closer’, ‘Charmer’, ‘Four Kicks’, ‘Fans’ fuck it you get the point, they’ve got an arsenal of hits strong enough to bring the most prestigious of band timidly and shamefully to their quivering knees. Despite this discography of delight their last endeavour Mechanical Bull was slightly off character shall we say? It didn’t quite drop with the illustrious bang the band has become accustomed to with its predecessors. BUT they’ve dusted themselves off and jumped straight back on the rock and roll horse. That’s right KOL are back!

They recently announced the release of, what will be, their seventh studio album ‘WALLS’. It’s due to hit shelves on the 14th October 2016 via RCA Records. This will be their first release since 2013 having taking a three year break. Their Deep South blues rock twist has been sorely missed during the course of this hiatus. Many a summer’s day has passed when several of this, beautiful, planets patrons were left pondering what it would be like to bask in the glory of a warm tranquil day listening to a new Kings of Leon record. Unfortunately it’s arriving in October which, for those of you that reside in England, is guaranteed to be grey and dreary. But hey, an autumn release is better than no release!

It appears the band are ‘going back to their roots’ setting up camp in LA where they recorded their first two albums all those years ago. Maybe this is a significant decision in the creative muse of the new album, did they need to rekindle a flame that had reached its last flicker? Hopefully this is a reliable indication of what we can expect from WALLS, something that resembles the bluesy bite they once had married with the intricate and soulful tendencies they’ve accrued over their expansive careers would be a recipe for success. They’ve adopted new leadership in regards to the albums production. In a recent interview with Billboard they divulged some information on back room personnel. Ties have been cut with long term, friend and producer Angelo Petraglia in fear that their relationship had grown ‘too safe’. Does this indicate that they are aware of the declining nature of their latest release Mechanical Bull and taking necessary measures to reinstate their ‘mojo’. All signs are pointing in the right direction so far, from what we can derive the new record will take them out of their prosperous comfort zone and back into the shark tank where it began. Bassist Jared Followill spoke about new producer Markus Dravs and how he kept the band on their toes ‘working and experimenting’. "He just said things that nobody had ever said to us. Like, 'I don't like that song, that's not good, we can move on from that.'" Dravs would make the band think outside their safe havens by suddenly asking them to change the style of the song or scrap verses and write brand new ones on the spot. "He'd be like, 'OK, now play it like the Sex Pistols.' And then you've turned a slow song into a fast one.". The Sex Pistols?........ KOL and The Sex Pistols in the same sentence? Fuck I can’t wait to hear this new album!!
