REVIEW: INHEAVEN - 'TREATS'

INHEAVEN represent humanities desperate outcry for music you can really sink your teeth into. They opitimise the sound we all crave, clawing that grizzly, fuzzy, chord progressive style straight back from the deadly grasp of the cold hearted 90’s. We’ve all had a raging case the of blue balls for a band like this over the past decade and their latest single ‘Treats’ was the adequate release we needed. Prepare for a fuzz-drenched head rush of thick sludgy verses and frustratingly catchy choruses. After one listen you’ll have engrained every nook and cranny of its existence into that borderline psychotic subconscious of yours. Treats is a bold call for the return of some of the 90’s best bands. Lead singer Chloe Little audaciously reincarnates the rebellious and unhinged, Kurt Cobain through her droning yet bitterly sweet vocals. It isn’t every day that we’re graced with a band of such calibre. We hear aspects of several influences from Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies and Placebo. The release of ‘Treats’ has cemented all four of INHEAVEN’s metaphorical wheels firmly on the ground with enough gas and AA map coverage to take them all the way. They haven’t fucked around with this, they know exactly what they wanted to achieve and have done just that. It’s one of those songs you expect to hear being smashed over and over again on the radio whilst you’re driving down the road squealing your heart out.

Female led bands have historically never been as successful as their alternative number. The past decade hasn’t been a time for revolution on this front either. Sadly you could almost count the number of female rockstars of this generation on one hand. That’s not to say they’re sparce in existence, a shocking abundance of female fronted bands rarely get their chance to breakthrough. It’s a fucking farce really! Take a moment to reflect….. only, really, Hayley Williams of Paramore and, arguably, Allison Mosshart have claimed the recognition they deserve. IT’S A FUCKING TRAVESTY I TELL YA’! (bare in mind we are talking about rock music). I can hear you all now reciting the names of other underrated female artists like it’s a pop quiz at your local boozer! The point is we want more. So, youth of today, pay attention, start up your scrappy garage band; get your girlfriend, sister, auntie, cousin or even a stranger involved and make some chaotic noise together.
Stodgy guitar, grungy solo’s, snappy drums and running basslines all attribute to the perfectly curated and satisfyingly noisy mayhem that INHEAVEN achieve. TREATS is tribute to our rock heroes of old and gives a fresh breath of life to a style of rock that has so much vigour, energy, life and passion left to offer!
INHEAVEN will be heading out on headline UK tour next February with dates at Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, Leeds and a very local gig for us in Aldershot! Tickets are a steal at around £8.80, so don't be a scrooge get yourself and friends tickets for Christmas HERE and listen to TREATS below:
