THE BAY RAYS REVEAL NEW VIDEO FOR "SATISFACTION"

Introducing ‘The Bay Rays’, a three piece band from Kent that are slowly demanding the attention of worldwide onlookers through their infusion of hypnotic garage rock. They recently toured with the likes of Slaves, Estrons and headlined the BBC Introducing stage at 2016’s Glastonbury Festival, so yeah definitely a band with a huge amount of promise. Like most upcoming bands, The Bay Rays have a busy summer ahead of them with appearances at many of the UK’s biggest festivals including Great Escape, Hit the North, Live At Leeds and City Sound Project. You don’t have to wait that long to catch them live though, they play their first headline show in London at the Sebright Arms on 31st March tickets are £5 via Dice FM, be quick they’re bound to sell like hot cakes. We’re heading down for that so keep an eye out for the Live Review shortly after!

To date the band has only released four songs BUT damn what a collection of tracks these are. All dropped last year; they’re packed with vibrant bass, rock and roll hooks and hip thrusting attitude. Think the same ball park as Black Keys and KOL with a vibrant hint of summer fuelled indie rock. Not the same raw bluesy roots as an early Black Keys but more towards the latter stages of their career with the vivacious charm and elegance of Turn Blue and El Camino. The Bay Rays incorporate an essence of energetic and happy soul to their garage rock foundation which creates a really warm and bubbly atmosphere for all to consume. New Home could quite possibly be the catchiest song of the past decade. Since hearing it for the first time I can’t get it out of my head every morning I wake up humming it like a drowsy, possessed zombie. It has the same ‘swing’ as Black Keys ‘Lonely Boy’, stand on the spot, shake your hips and throw some robust shapes to the sky.

Their sound transports us back to an era of great garage indie rock when festival stages were flooded with bands like Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, We Are Scientists, Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks, Vampire Weekend and all that, early noughties, rabble. This gives it a slightly nostalgic tone, not one that’s too overwhelming or has a ‘been there done that’ bitter after taste though. This is a fresh new breeze that hasn’t been felt before and it’s oozing with ‘swagger’ and confidence.

We’re here to talk about the release of the NEW video for their latest single ‘Satisfaction’ though so let’s get on with it. In the video we see The Bay Rays performing on a 60’s TV show to a packed audience of fans. The whole performance itself is very planned and rigid with a lack of free flowing impulsivity or rock and roll vigour. The Bay Rays seem trapped by the shows process making them uncomfortable and uneasy. This plot aims to connote the overall theme of the record about breaking down social anxieties. The ‘stick to the script’ mindset leaves the band extremely frustrated until they just can’t take anymore, breaking free from their ‘figurative’ chains and letting loose on stage. Led from the front, they ditch this pre-meditated trash, much to the initial disgust of the show’s producers, and opt to do things their way. The lead singer/ guitarist hits the deck sliding across the floor in true rock and roll fashion which eventually wins over everyone present in the studio. Cue cards are dropped and replaced with hip shakin’, dancing and smiles all round. It’s a fucking great track, one that’s dead cert to be included on plenty of summer playlists in 2017.

The Bay Rays are very hot property so keep your eyes firmly peeled and ears poised. Follow them on any or all of their live social media accounts to keep up to date with new releases, tour dates etc. There will surely be lots going on over the next few months/years in camp Bay Rays so don’t miss out. Check the NEW video for ‘Satisfaction’ below and do your bit as an advocate of live music and get down to one of their live sets… PRONTO!!
