It’s finally here The Blinders have taken the plunge and released the follow up to their debut single “Swine” in the form of its gloriously tantalising B-Side brethren “Ramona Flowers”. It’s accompanied by a music video made from a collection of live footage of the bands, envy worthy, Rock 'n' Rolla tour. The track was a setlist staple on their recent headline apperances, giving fans the taste of its sweet, sweet nectar almost borderline teasing, like waving a line of coke in front of Liam Gallagher back in 1997. The track is an interesting prospect with their characteristic dooming presence , eerie twang and Black Sabbath like vigour delivered with a slow, creepy undertone. It’s bluesy vibe is evident, take a 60’s blues classic slow it right down to the point that it’s almost in reverse, take away the happy, add some serious echo, distortion, attitude and fucking big bollocks and you have “Ramona Flowers”. The floating cloud like tempo and sharp riff creates a vortex of weightless and airy psychedelia, take Jack White and possess him with a demonic entity and I’m pretty sure this is something he would come up with. Zombie White Stripes?
They venture into the realm of dark blues with Ramona Flowers, its aura suggests that the relationship with the songs protagonist isn’t all flowers and sunshine. Maybe she’s an alluring character one that gets stuck in your mind and will haunt you for days and years on end with her spellbinding stares. Who knows? It’s a sure step away from their usual politically driven agenda though. In an era where an abundance of punk rock dwells in the cesspit of the UK’s underground music scene The Blinders are a breath of fresh air rising through thick smog of bang average talent toward their rightful thrones.
We wouldn’t dare finish this post without mentioning the ghostly prowess of drummer Matty Neale. Here again we witness the reincarnation of authoritative drumming we heard back in the 70’s with the introduction of Black Sabbath. They carry the song from start to finish like a guardian angel of death waiting to strike with a venomous bite. The bass and lead guitar fill the song with plot, it thickens throughout as the bass keeps running and the guitar spirals off into a world of shaky blues licks. Seriously, we’re starting to run out of superlatives to praise The Blinders they really are fucking special and this new release is a showcase of their raw, unfiltered and, we hope, endless talent. Listen to Ramona Flowers below, i'll be adding it to a few of our TRW playlists on Spotify and listening to it on repeat until it’s the only thing I can hear in my hollow, thoughtless brain. PEACE & LOVE xoxo
