There aren’t enough girls branching out of the pop world, that’s a fact. With only nine acts at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festival featuring a female musician in the line-up, the rock world is screaming out for representation, and it looks like we’ve been heard. By who? London’s hottest new grunge-punk trio, ‘Hey Charlie’.

Making their grand entrance into the music world, their debut single “Hey” is bursting with Nirvana-esque riffs, contagious pop hooks and a fist-punching chorus that’ll make you itch for a muddy field to scream along and forget about life’s usual shit. Produced by Spring King’s Tarek Musa, the track oozes with their love of 90s grunge and punk. The harmonies are faultless, their musicianship is on point, and most of all they look great. They’re challenging the stereotype that you can’t be feminine and play decent music, and they’re succeeding. About fucking time.
The video is full of bright attitude and suave confidence as they trawl round the streets of London having a whale of a time. It flips back and forth from a solitary room where they’re setup in full band mode poised and ready to kill some eardrums. Anarchic fun seems to be the theme, get involved!
They’ve already made Kerrang!’s head turn with a slot on the bill at their Fresh Blood night in October, alongside the highly anticipated WSTR and Grumble Bee. With a tour in the works, keep your eyes peeled – these girls are definitely ones to watch!
